One of our joys each Christmas time is being able to go into our garden and paddocks and pick our own holly. Last Christmas (2020) was no exception but we normally have to pick it late November / early December and put it in the greenhouse in water. If we didn't pick it this early then the Redwings and Fieldfares would eat all the berries by mid December. This Christmas, however, we cut and watered as usual late November but the birds didn't arrive. In fact our holly trees are still a mass of berries and only today have the Redwings arrived with a couple of blackbirds and started gorging themselves.
